MEET OUR 2020 SCHOLARSHIP BENEFICIARY
John Lennon once said, “We all want to change the world”. I believe I will change the world positively with a good education. Up until the completion of my KCSE from Dry’s Girls Secondary School in Ainabkoi Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, with an A- grade, it was quite hazy how that path would look for me. In April 2019, I was highly privileged to be inducted into the 2019 cohort of Zawadi Africa Education Fund Scholars.
I will attest that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to diversify my academic experience and actualize my deepest dream of scaling global heights with my expertise. It was really fun seeing my whole academic journey unfold in a series of essays, leadership training, SAT examinations, insightful conversations with Zawadi alumni, information sessions with hundreds of university admission counselors, and finally the actual application process.
I applied to 10 top university programs in the United States. It required a tremendous amount of effort. I sacrificed every waking moment that I wasn’t in school or doing something really important for extracurricular activities to apply to colleges. The process would have been unbearably tedious, frustrating, and aggravating wasn’t it for my college guidance counselor, Ms. Lillian Kwamboka, who set me up for everything. She insisted on an unstoppable work ethic, eased the mailing of application and financial aid documents, and kept encouraging me that I could get into the schools I wanted if I gave the process my all. I believe I did.
Eventually, those January deadlines hit and all I had to do was wait. I can say with definite certainty that my resilience, hard work, independence, and diligence which had been solidified by my 9-month training at Zawadi Africa finally paid off. End of March 2020, I received the prestigious Zawadi Scholarship (Fully-funded) to join the 2024 undergraduate class at Villanova University; One of the best Undergraduate schools in Pennsylvania, United States.
The most powerful thing in the world is when everything gets silent and the only thing that penetrates is your own voice which is insanely proud of you. The Zawadi Africa Education Fund led by Dr. Susan Mboya has afforded me exactly that.
The program is incomparably amazing. Thank you so much for this invaluable opportunity! I’m forever indebted. Enclosed are photos of the beautiful Villanova Campus.
