A Day of Gratitude and Unity: Prayers Day at Fountain Schools https://fountainschools.net/a-day-of-gratitude-and-unity-prayers-day-at-fountain-schools/ Thu, 12 Oct 2023 04:53:40 +0000 https://fountainschools.net/?p=1080

At Fountain Schools, we believe in nurturing not only the minds but also the hearts of our students. On our annual Prayers Day, we come together as a school community to celebrate the values of love, gratitude, and unity. This special day holds a significant place in our hearts as we gather to express our faith, reflect on our blessings, and join in prayers for a brighter future. In this post, we take you through the heartwarming and spiritually enriching experience of Prayers Day at Fountain Schools.

The Morning Begins with a Reflection

As the sun rises and fills our school with its warm glow, students, teachers, and parents gather in the beautifully decorated school courtyard. We start the day with a moment of silence, encouraging everyone to reflect on the things they are grateful for in their lives. It’s a serene and powerful way to kick off the day’s activities, setting a positive and contemplative tone for the entire event.

Songs of Faith and Hope

The heart of Prayers Day is the choir’s melodious hymns and songs that resonate with themes of faith, hope, and unity. The songs are performed by our talented students and teachers and serve as a reminder of the values that bind us together as a school family. The uplifting tunes and heartfelt lyrics create an atmosphere of tranquility and hope.

Interfaith Prayers and Reflections

Our diverse student body represents various cultural and religious backgrounds, making Prayers Day a time for inclusivity and understanding. During this event, we invite students, teachers, and parents to share prayers and reflections from their own faith traditions. It’s an enriching experience as we learn about different cultures and come together in a spirit of unity.

Acts of Kindness

Prayers Day is not just about what we say but also what we do. We encourage students to participate in acts of kindness and community service. From collecting donations for local charities to planting trees on our school grounds, these activities instill a sense of responsibility and empathy in our young learners.

Moment of Silence for the World

We believe that our prayers should extend beyond our immediate community. Therefore, we observe a moment of silence for global peace and harmony. It’s a time to reflect on the challenges facing the world and the role each one of us can play in making it a better place. This collective act of reflection is a powerful reminder of our interconnectedness.

A Day of Togetherness

Prayers Day is not only a spiritual event but also a day of togetherness and celebration. After the prayers and reflections, we gather for a communal meal where students, teachers, and parents share food and laughter. It’s a time to strengthen the bonds of our school community and celebrate the diverse backgrounds that enrich our lives.

Conclusion

Prayers Day is more than just a religious event; it’s a day dedicated to cultivating values of gratitude, unity, and love. It’s a reminder that, regardless of our differences, we are bound by our shared humanity and a commitment to make the world a better place. This day of reflection, prayer, and togetherness leaves us with renewed spirits and a profound sense of purpose, both as individuals and as a school community.

Children’s Home Caregiving https://fountainschools.net/childrens-home-caregiving/ Mon, 02 Oct 2023 11:55:52 +0000 https://fountainschools.net/?p=1052 On the 30th of August, our grade 3 learners today visited Kipchamgaa children’s home. We managed to donate food stuffs clothes and other necessary sanitation materials. Our generous parents facilitated this donation drive.

Visiting the Kipchamgaa children’s home with an assortment of goods was a heartwarming and profoundly positive experience for all involved. As we stepped through the doors of the home, we were immediately greeted by a chorus of eager and smiling faces, each child radiating with anticipation and curiosity.

The first thing that struck us was the atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie that filled the space. The children and caregivers had created a close-knit family, and their sense of unity was palpable. It was clear that this was a place where love and support thrived.

As we began to distribute the goods we had brought the excitement in the room reached its peak. The children’s eyes lit up with joy as they received their gifts, and their laughter filled the air. It was a beautiful sight to behold, as the room transformed into a colorful and vibrant playground of happiness.

But the impact went beyond the immediate delight of receiving new items. We could see the children’s imaginations ignite as they explored their gifts.

In addition to the material gifts, our presence brought a sense of connection and reassurance. We shared stories, played games, and listened to the children’s dreams and aspirations. It was a reminder that every child deserves love, attention, and the chance to feel special.

The impact of our visit extended beyond the children themselves. The caregivers and staff at the home expressed their gratitude, explaining how our visit had reinvigorated their spirits and renewed their sense of purpose. Knowing that there were people who cared deeply about these children gave them the strength to continue their vital work.

Leaving the children’s home that day, our hearts were full of gratitude and joy. We had witnessed the power of simple acts of kindness and the profound impact they can have on young lives. The smiles on the children’s faces and the warmth in their hearts were a testament to the positive change that can occur when we come together to make a difference in the lives of those in need. It was an experience that left an indelible mark on all of us, a reminder of the incredible power of compassion and the importance of giving back to our community.

Alumni Success Story: Vicky Chelangat https://fountainschools.net/alumni-success-story-vicky/ https://fountainschools.net/alumni-success-story-vicky/#comments Wed, 06 Sep 2023 09:05:32 +0000 https://fountainschools.net/?p=1028 Vicky Chelangat is a former Student at Fountain Class of 2012 and we are here with pride to celebrate her achievements.

She got a full Scholarship from Zawadi Africa to Study Chemical engineering at Villa Nova University

Name: Vicky Chelangat
Villanova University class of 2025
Major: Chemical engineering
Minor: Astronomy, Astrophysics, and Outer Space Science

Here are some thoughts she shared about her new adventure in academic excellence:

MEET OUR 2020 SCHOLARSHIP BENEFICIARY 🎓

John Lennon once said, “We all want to change the world”. I believe I will change the world positively with a good education. Up until the completion of my KCSE from Dry’s Girls Secondary School in Ainabkoi Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, with an A- grade, it was quite hazy how that path would look for me. In April 2019, I was highly privileged to be inducted into the 2019 cohort of Zawadi Africa Education Fund Scholars.
I will attest that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to diversify my academic experience and actualize my deepest dream of scaling global heights with my expertise. It was really fun seeing my whole academic journey unfold in a series of essays, leadership training, SAT examinations, insightful conversations with Zawadi alumni, information sessions with hundreds of university admission counselors, and finally the actual application process.
I applied to 10 top university programs in the United States. It required a tremendous amount of effort. I sacrificed every waking moment that I wasn’t in school or doing something really important for extracurricular activities to apply to colleges. The process would have been unbearably tedious, frustrating, and aggravating wasn’t it for my college guidance counselor, Ms. Lillian Kwamboka, who set me up for everything. She insisted on an unstoppable work ethic, eased the mailing of application and financial aid documents, and kept encouraging me that I could get into the schools I wanted if I gave the process my all. I believe I did.
Eventually, those January deadlines hit and all I had to do was wait. I can say with definite certainty that my resilience, hard work, independence, and diligence which had been solidified by my 9-month training at Zawadi Africa finally paid off. End of March 2020, I received the prestigious Zawadi Scholarship (Fully-funded) to join the 2024 undergraduate class at Villanova University; One of the best Undergraduate schools in Pennsylvania, United States.
The most powerful thing in the world is when everything gets silent and the only thing that penetrates is your own voice which is insanely proud of you. The Zawadi Africa Education Fund led by Dr. Susan Mboya has afforded me exactly that.
The program is incomparably amazing. Thank you so much for this invaluable opportunity! I’m forever indebted. Enclosed are photos of the beautiful Villanova Campus.

1999: The Year Fountain Schools Kericho is Founded https://fountainschools.net/1999-the-year-fountain-schools-kericho-is-founded/ Mon, 03 Feb 2020 08:13:37 +0000 https://fountainschools.net/?p=977 It has been over a decade of hard work and dedication towards educating and nurturing young learners. Following a strong inspiration, Mother Annah Koech founded Fountain Schools, a Christian Kindergarten school whose foundation stood on Love, Faith and Hope.

The Legacy of Mother Annah Koech

Mother Annah was inspired to open up a path to allow young learners to thrive and excel in a conducive environment outside of Kericho town following a desire to see others benefit from something she herself had not experienced.

She grew up in a society where the girl child was not considered fit to pursue education because of cultural interpretation of roles of girls and women at large. This did not sit well with Mother Annah and she beat the odds and on 11th January 1999, Fountain Schools Kericho was incepted.

â€śEducation of a child is education for all Society”- Mother Annah Koech

Her desire to see others succeed was a true definition of servant-ship. With a meager number of 7 admissions in that year, the school administration did not lay down their tools yet, the numbers grew each year as the institution battled many challenges and storms, this did not however kill the initial desire to establish the learning institution.

The Infrastructure

The school began in a three rental mabati rooms, this is where the pre-school stands. In 2020 Fountain Schools Pre-School stands on 7 Classrooms, a dining room and 2 sleeping rooms.

The Primary section is a two storey building consisting of 12 classes, conference hall, board room and water storage facilities. These achievements are attributed to the hard work and zeal of the school administration under the leadership of Mother Annah Koech.

Enrollment

In the year 1999, the school started with 3 students and 3 teachers and by the close of the year, a total of 7 students had been enrolled.

The year 2004 saw the school achieve a huge milestone as it established a class One classroom to accommodate graduates of pre-primary education after a period of 5 years.

In the year 2011, the school sat for its first KCPE Examinations opening doors for more students to enroll and excel in their education. To date, the school has not lost its dire goal to offer excellent learning environment that will give every child equal opportunity to unleash their potential through curriculum and co-curricular activities.

Fountain Schools Kericho’s greatest desire to cooperate with the entire community towards achieving their goals and targets.

Education and Culture https://fountainschools.net/klarna-partners-with-london-college-of-fashion/ Mon, 26 Feb 2018 06:42:57 +0000 http://demo.sparklewpthemes.com/educenter/?p=293 Education is the process by which cultural heritage is transmitted from one generation to another. In fact, it is the society’s culture that forms the content of its educational programmes.

Culture is the content of education. Thus education has to draw its content from culture. Education transmits culture through formal and informal curriculum. Formal curriculum comprises of the various subjects taught such as languages, mathematics, physical sciences, biological sciences, social sciences, technical subjects and Religious studies.

For culture to be transmitted, it must have content. The values that the school transmits can be seen as the culture of the society. It is culture that forms the content of education.
In promoting culture therefore, the school curriculum through the various subjects promotes and enhances the learning of culture. The subjects taught transmit certain values:

– Society must provide its members with the tools of communication language become crucial for education. Kenyan schools teach English and Kiswahili as the major languages of communication.
– Society must teach its members skills and knowledge related to material culture. Disciplines like agricultural science, natural sciences, vocational education are taught in schools.
– Aesthetic values are taught through arts, music among others.
Spiritual or moral education is taught through religion and by precept.
Members of the society learn about their environment by studying geography and natural sciences.
– Individual learn how to live in society through study of history, sociology, anthropology, government procedures and laws, political science and others.

Schools therefore transmit the culture of the day. For example in Kenya today through the 8-4-4 system of education, emphasis is on technical and agricultural subjects for the purposes of enhancing self-employment.

Society, culture and education are strictly interrelated and each one is necessary for the continued existence of the others. Society has the responsibility of producing quality education and preparing its members well to keep the society going. To do this, it expresses its culture and teaches it. In this way, transmitting culture becomes education itself, as education is not possible without a living culture and society
Education transmits culture in a number of ways, for example;

1. Teaching languages for education that is, tools for communication e.g. Kiswahili, English and others.
2. Knowledge and skills in material culture are taught in agriculture, natural sciences, vocational and technological courses.
3. Aesthetic values are taught through Art courses for example, Music, Fine art and others.
4. Spiritual and moral education is taught through religious studies, social studies among others.
5. Mastery of the physical environment is taught through Geography.
6. Learning how to co-exist in society is taught through social studies, history, sociology and anthropology.
7. Improvement on the physical environment through courses in building and surveying
8. Regulations, maintenance and continued survival of society through good government and study of procedures for social control.
9. Defense against external and internal forces through the study of military science.

How Sports impacts Learning https://fountainschools.net/how-your-brain-may-one-day-control-your-computer/ Mon, 26 Feb 2018 06:39:58 +0000 http://demo.sparklewpthemes.com/educenter/?p=290 Research shows that sports playa vital role in creating positive attributes in individuals. These include character building, wellbeing, and good mental and moral health in people. Sports equally play an important role in enhancing social cohesion and peace among communities. International organizations recognize sport as a universal language that can contribute to global peace development and health. Worldwide UNICEF and other organizations content that development and peace goals can be achieved through sports. Policy programs have been drawn internationally to recognize physical education and schools as important in development of sports and potential among the youth. Despite this, there exists a gap between policy and actual performance of sports in physical education in schools in Kenya today.

The factors that were investigated in this study were; socio-cultural, economic status, curriculum and logistical/ tactical factors and their effects on development of sports talent among students in schools in Homabay municipality. The research design used in the study was descriptive survey method. The study population consisted of 10 public and private secondary schools. Stratified random sampling technique was used to sample 444 students for the study, while purposive sampling was used to sample 10 head teachers and 30 teacher-coaches; 3 per school. Questionnaires, document analysis and observations were used to obtain data. Data was analyzed by the use of descriptive statistics of frequencies and percentages. In the study, it emerged that socio-cultural factors such as family and friends were chief in motivating or de-motivating students to participate in sports.

It also emerged that the economic status of schools particularly affected the quality of training that students received in sports as well as the attitudes by teachers and students regarding P.E and physical activity. Finally logistical ltactical factors regarding sports training, coach qualifications and a lack thereof of linkage programs within schools that could allow students pursue sports beyond secondary schools affected the quality of training and commitment by students to sports. The study recommends actions for rectification of the situation through of re-introduction of P.E as an examinable subject for academic credit in schools as well as studies into policies that would enable schools introduce linkage programs to allow students pursue professional sports.
